La Rinconada Station is the second heart-safe zone in the Caracas Metro

Caracas, May 27, 2026.- Committed to transforming public spaces into safe environments for life, the Venemergencia Foundation took a strategic step forward in its Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) program by unveiling its 34th defibrillator at La Rinconada station, the second in the Caracas Metro system—an achievement made possible by the institution’s partnership with Metromedia and the Caracas Metro.

The event brought together foundation executives and transportation system officials, who celebrated the launch of this state-of-the-art device. The location of this new Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) is key for responding to out-of-hospital cardiovascular emergencies. La Rinconada station not only serves daily transit passengers but also serves as a direct transfer point for citizens traveling from the Valles del Tuy via the Central Railway System.

A shield of health at the epicenter of transportation and entertainment

As one of the main connection points between Miranda State and the capital, as well as the gateway to venues hosting large crowds such as the Poliedro de Caracas and the Simón Bolívar Monumental Stadium, the presence of this device represents a crucial advance in the public’s ability to respond to pre-hospital medical emergencies. Caracas Metro authorities applauded the initiative, noting that equipping a station with such high foot traffic with state-of-the-art medical technology enhances the service and provides peace of mind to the community.

Andrea Galarraga, director of sustainability at the Venemergencia Foundation, highlighted the social value of this initiative: “Protecting the La Rinconada station of the Caracas Metro—a key hub connecting mass transit with major entertainment venues and commuter towns with the capital—with our 34th device means creating a protective shield for thousands of Venezuelans through our DAP program, which allows us to transform public spaces into heart-safe zones.”

Comprehensive Partnership

In turn, the Venemergencia Foundation held a training session at the Caracas Metro headquarters for operators at the various stations of the underground system.

During this educational session at headquarters, the foundation’s team of instructors taught the Basic Life Support (BLS) course endorsed by the National Academy of Medicine, where workers practiced Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) using specialized simulators and learned the correct protocol for the safe use and handling of the defibrillator in the event of a cardiac arrest.

Through this comprehensive training, the system’s operational staff was effectively equipped to provide immediate assistance to users in the event of a pre-hospital medical emergency, maximizing the chances of success while awaiting professional medical services. In this way, the Venemergencia Foundation continues to demonstrate that the combination of technological innovation and training, together with public-private partnerships, is a powerful tool for improving the quality of life for Venezuelans.
